Miscellaneous

Page Location:
Admin > Codes > Miscellaneous > Course
Admin > Codes > Miscellaneous > Student

There are two sets of Miscellaneous fields which can be drop-downs in Cyber Train.  If no options are listed in this section then no miscellaneous fields have been set up as drop-down options.  To make a miscellaneous field appear as a drop-down instead of a fill in the blank field, go to the appropriate Miscellaneous page in the Page Builder section and check the checkbox next to the field caption.  Adding a check-box will make the field caption appear in the corresponding section list so code values can be added.

Student Miscellaneous

This code table contains options that are appropriate to a User-Defined miscellaneous field based on the setup in the  Admin > Page
Builder > Student Detail> Miscellaneous tab. Create the field in one of the twenty (20) misc field options and check the checkbox next to the field name. That will create the code table here with same User-Defined name.

User View: The Miscellaneous codes are seen on the Student File > Miscellaneous Page.  Depending on which miscellaneous field is used (1 - 20) it will show in the appropriate field on this page.  These codes can also be leveraged in Student data sources for the Report Writer.

Student/Manager View: At this time, students/managers cannot see student miscellaneous codes/fields.

Import Code Key for Students: S1, S2, S3, etc.  S20
Each code table which will be imported will have a different import key.  The import key will direct the import tool as to which of the miscellaneous fields should get the codes and descriptions.  .csv file should contain Code & Description in that order.

Course Miscellaneous

This code table contains options that are appropriate to a User-Defined miscellaneous field based on the setup in Admin > Page
Builder > Course/Class Detail. Create the field in one of the twenty (20) misc field options and check the checkbox next to the field name. That will create the code table here with same User-Defined name.

User View: The Miscellaneous codes are seen on the Course File > Main Page > Miscellaneous Tab and the Class File > Class Details Page > Miscellaneous Tab.  Depending on which miscellaneous field is used (1 - 20) it will show in the appropriate field on this page.  These codes can also be leveraged in Student data sources for the Report Writer.

Import Code Key for Courses: C1, C2, C3, etc.  C20
Each code table which will be imported will have a different import key.  The import key will direct the import tool as to which of the miscellaneous fields should get the codes and descriptions..csv file should contain Code & Description in that order.

Creating Miscellaneous Codes

Important Considerations:  Cyber Train codes cannot contain certain symbols such as commas, quotes, periods, apostrophes or ampersands and the user will get an error message when trying to enter or import codes containing them. There are also certain character combinations that must be avoided because Cyber Train is programmed to strip them (even if they are in the middle of a code or description) as they can be used by others to reference potentially dangerous procedures or scripts that could cause harm to your Cyber Train system. These combinations include: SP_ or sp_ and XP_ or xp_. Also a double dash will be converted to a single dash. There are a few other combinations not listed here that could be stripped, but it is extremely unlikely that they would be used in codes or descriptions.

After clicking "Add new record." enter in the necessary information to create a new code.

Field Purpose
Code Unique Identifier for the drop-down option. This code is written in the raw data and is referenced to determine the description to show on the screen. If the code is removed from the Admin > Codes section, this value will still be in the Course File or Student File for reporting purposes unless the file is edited and saved after the code was deleted.
Description This is what is displayed on the screens and on the website for searching.

Inactivating Codes

These codes cannot be inactivated.

NOTE: If a code cannot be inactivated, it is not recommended to delete the code as this could cause "holes" in your data. Instead, consider adding a "z" to the beginning of the Description field as this will move the code to the bottom of the list as the lists are generally alphabetized and then to train the users/students that anything that starts with a "z" is no longer in use.
